The central government has disallowed the import of capital goods for power generation and transmission projects under the Export Promotion Capital Goods Scheme. The scheme allowed the import of capital goods at zero customs duty for pre-production, production and post-production. This follows an amendment to the Foreign Trade Policy, 2015-20 issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade. Following this, an import duty of 5 per cent would be levied on the import of capital goods for the power sector.
