Yellampalli Barrage operationalized in Karimnagar district of Telangana

The Yellampalli Barrage in the Karimnagar district of Telangana has been operationalised, almost two years after the completion of construction works. The barrage will be used to source water for the first phase of Mission Bhagiratha. The water will be supplied to nine assembly constituencies in Medak, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda and Warangal districts. The barrage has a full reservoir capacity of 20 thousand million cubic feet (tmcft). However, only 6 tmcft could be utilised last year due to resistance from villages in Adilabad and Karimnagar districts to vacate land. This was due to delay in relief and rehabilitation settlements and compensation payments to submerged lands. The project will supply 10 tmcft to meet the drinking water needs of Hyderabad and also provide 6.5 tmcft of water to the inter-state power project of the National Thermal Power Corporation at Ramagundam.
