The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in Maharashtra has received approval for implementing the water distribution improvement project. The Rs 2.48 billion project involves construction of 82 water tanks, laying of 1,600 km of water pipelines and installation of water The tenders for laying pipelines is likely to be issued soon. Meanwhile, the PMC is also planning to remove a 700-km obsolete pipeline network in the next two years. The network is at least 20-25 years old and accounts for about 7 per cent of the city’s water leakages. Most of these pipelines are located in key areas such as Mandai, Shivaji Nagar, Kothrud and Senapati Bapat Road.
