Solid waste management facility to come up in Shillong

The State Investment Program and Monitoring Implementation Unit (SIPMIU) in Meghalaya is planning to implement the Shillong solid waste management (SWM) project. SIPMIU is currently acting in the capacity of the implementing agency, but will later hand over the SWM project to the Shillong Municipal Board. The overall project investment is estimated at about Rs 2.51 billion. It is being executed under the North Eastern Region Capital Cities Development Investment Program (NERCCDIP). Tranches II and III of the NRECCDIP cover SWM including development of a permanent landfill site with related works, a sewerage system for Shillong and institutional reforms. The projects in Shillong are expected to be implemented by 2018.
