Government finalises agreements with Russia for construction of fifth and sixth units of Kudankulam nuclear project

The central government has finalised agreements with its Russian counterpart for constructing the fifth and sixth units of the Kudankulam nuclear power project at Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. The agreements pertain to the general framework and credit protocol. While the second unit of the plant was commissioned in February 2016, the third and fourth units are under construction. In a separate development, Russia’s Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation has set up a regional centre in Mumbai for coordinating its projects in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
