IGL to start CNG and PNG supply by end-2016

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) plans to start the supply of compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG) in Rewari district of Haryana by the end of 2016. IGL received the letter of intent from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board for the grant of authorisation to develop the city gas distribution network in Rewari on August 9, 2016. IGL expects to start CNG supply by the end of 2016 at one retail outlet of an oil marketing company (OMC). Thereafter, it plans to set up two-three IGL-owned CNG stations, followed by CNG fuelling facilities at OMC retail outlets within two years. IGL has plans to start the supply of PNG to households in Dharuhera and Bawal towns in a year’s time and aims to provide 5,000 piped gas connections to domestic kitchens in three years. The cost of the project is expected to be around Rs 1.5 billion. In the first year, 40-50 km of gas pipeline network is expected to be laid in the district.
