Berhampur Water Supply Project receives approval from Odisha government

The Government of Odisha has approved the Rs 4.31 billion Berhampur Water Supply Project. It is expected to provide around 125 million litres per day (mld) water to Berhampur city. The scope of the project involves drawing water from the Janivilly ayacut, which is located about 55 km from the city, through an underground pipeline network. Further, the project also involves construction of a 60 mld water treatment plant at Jagdalpur, 10 underground reservoirs, 17 elevated service reservoirs, 18 pump houses and an intake well-cum-pump house at Janivilly. Moreover, a 208-km long water distribution network will also be laid as part of the project.  The government has awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the project to Larsen & Toubro Limited. The project is expected to be completed by October 2018.
