MoP’s expert committee suggests direct subsidy transfer for electricity consumers

An expert committee set up by the MoP has suggested the direct transfer of subsidy for electricity consumption. The committee was set up by the MoP for suggesting ways to increase electricity demand and consumption. The scheme, if implemented, is expected to reduce the subsidy burden of the central government, reduce loss and pilferage due to the misuse of subsidy, as well as strengthen the discoms financially. The committee is likely to submit its report to the MoP soon.
