The Uttar Pradesh Government has inaugurated a 245 mld water treatment plant (WTP) at Siddharth Vihar in Ghaziabad. The Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam had been conducting trial runs on the WTP since December 2015. While about 80 per cent of the treated water from the WTP will be supplied to Noida, the government will supply the remaining quantum of water to the city of Ghaziabad. Further, the Ghaziabad Development Authority will distribute 15 per cent of this water. The remaining 5 per cent water will be supplied to colonies in Ghaziabad which have been built by the Uttar Pradesh Housing Board. The WTP, which entailed an investment of Rs 2.11 billion, has been developed under the Gangajal Water Supply Scheme. Meanwhile, another water treatment project at Siddharth Vihar, with a capacity to treat 120 mld water, is undergoing bidding.
