Water supply scheme launched in Odisha

The Odisha government has launched a new water supply scheme called ‘Buxi Jagabandhu Assured Water Supply to Habitations’ (BASUDHA) under its state budget for 2017-18. The government has prioritised water supply as a core focus area and allocated Rs 3.15 billion for ensuring water provision to the towns which will be covered under BASUDHA. In addition, the state budget has also announced a mega water supply project for the city of Berhampur. The project, worth Rs 4.89 billion, will source water from the Janivilli reservoir to meet the city’s needs. In addition, the state government has also allocated Rs 2.5 billion for operation and maintenance of water supply systems in Odisha.
