HMWSSB is planning on constructing two new reservoirs to meet the city’s future water requirements. These reservoirs will be developed with a capacity to hold 20 thousand million cubic feet of water each. The first reservoir is being planned at Keshavapuram and will source its water from the Krishna river. Meanwhile, the second reservoir will be developed at Devalammanagar with the Godavari river as its source. The two reservoirs will be able to together provide 750 million litres per day (mld) water to Hyderabad city. HMWSSB has already prepared the DPR for the Keshavpur reservoir project. A total of 1,572 hectares will be required to develop the reservoir, which will entail an investment of Rs 77 billion. The civic agency is targeting completion of the two projects in a period of three years from commencement of works.
