As per the Central Electricity Authority, India has become a net exporter of electricity for the first time. During April 2016 to February 2017, the country exported around 5,798 MUs to the neighbouring countries of Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar. This is 4 per cent higher than the electricity imported from Bhutan. The increase in power exports can be attributed to the recent commissioning of the India-Bangladesh and India-Nepal cross-border links.
