The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has approved 20 water supply and sewerage projects. These projects have been approved for implementation in the states of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Delhi. A total investment of Rs 19 billion will be required for their execution. Of the 20 approved projects, 13 projects will be implemented in Uttarakhand alone. These involve construction of sewage treatment plants (STPs), upgrading existing plants and laying sewerage networks in Haridwar. These works will entail a cost of Rs 4.15 billion. Meanwhile, other approved projects for Uttarakhand pertain to pollution abatement of the Alakananda river. NMCG has also approved a project for construction of a 26 million litres per day (mld) STP at Lakkar Ghat in Rishikesh. The plant, which will entail an investment of Rs 1.58 billion, will also have an online monitoring system. In Delhi, the approved projects include construction of a 564 mld STP at Okhla. The plant, worth Rs 6.65 billion, is envisaged to eventually replace all the existing STPs in the Okhla region. Works in Delhi also include laying of new sewerage pipelines at a cost of Rs 1 billion in Pitampura and Kondli.
