The Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India has announced the results of Swachh Survekshan 2017. The survey has ranked 434 cities and towns based on their sanitation levels. It has been topped by the city of Indore, followed by Bhopal and Visakhapatnam. Last year’s winner, Mysuru, has been demoted to the fifth rank. In addition, the states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh account for 31 of the top 50 clean cities. Meanwhile, cities in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh have shown significant improvements in their rankings over that of the previous year.
