Smart grids fitted with advanced information and communications technology are enabling more dynamic, real-time flows of information on the network and greater interaction between suppliers and consumers. To this end, the Ministry of Power (MoP) has announced a number of smart grid pilot projects to be implemented by various state-owned distribution utilities. Further, under the National Smart Grid Mission (NSGM), additional smart grid pilots have been sanctioned, which will be taken up for implementation with financial support to utilities from the central government and grants from the NSGM.
