The Central Electricity Authority has projected a peak surplus of 6.8 per cent and an energy surplus of 8.8 per cent for 2017-18 in its recent Load Generation Balance Report, 2017-18. A capacity addition of 13,405 MW comprising 11,366 MW of thermal, 1,539 MW of hydro and 500 MW of nuclear power has been considered for the year. The gross energy generation in the country for the year is estimated at 1,229.4 BUs.
