As per the Solar Photovoltaics, Systems, Devices and Component Goods (Requirement for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2017, issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), solar equipment will be eligible for sale only if it is registered and approved by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The new norms provide for the destruction of equipment that does not have the BIS standard mark. The norms are expected to encourage domestic manufacturers by discouraging the import of inferior Chinese equipment and will come into force one year after its publication in the official gazette.
