The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) in Karnataka has commissioned a water supply pipeline to transport Cauvery water to the city. The pipeline will convey water from the Malavalli reservoir in the Mandya district to Bengaluru. Currently, this water is being transported through an open canal. However, transportation along the canal leads to severe water losses due to evaporation, seepages, and the use of illegal pumpsets. The project is thus expected to save about 25 million litres per day (mld) of water during transmission.
