Punjab government lays foundation stone for Phase I of Amritsar bulk water supply project

The Punjab government laid the foundation stone for Phase I of the Amritsar bulk water supply project on February 22, 2021. The project involves the provision of 24×7 surface water (canal water) to the city of Amritsar in Punjab. It will entail the construction of water treatment plants and collection tanks for treated water and pumping stations. The state government has also inaugurated a sewerage project in Barnala district of Punjab, built at an estimated cost of Rs 1,056.3 million. The sewerage project involves augmentation and rehabilitation of 74 km of sewerage lines and 5,740 household sewerage connections, and construction of a sewage treatment plant (STP) with the capacity to treat 20 million litres per day (mld).
