The central government granted approval for the Satluj and Beas pollution abatement schemes under the National River Conservation Plan, on March 18, 2021. The project involves the conservation of the Satluj and Beas rivers, and the development of 648 mld sewage treatment capacity in 14 towns of Punjab at an estimated cost of Rs 71.7 billion. The towns include Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Kapurthala, Phillaur, Phagwara and Sultanpur Lodhi.
