India targets 2070 for net zero emissions

The prime minister announced 2070 as the target year for the country to reach net zero emissions at the Conference of the Parties 26 (COP26) conference at Glasgow, UK. India’s other goals include a target to have 50 per cent of its total energy requirements from renewable energy by 2030, reducing 1 billion tonnes of carbon equivalent of greenhouse gases GHG from its projected emissions by 2030, reducing carbon intensity by 45 per cent by 2030 from 2005 levels, and increasing the share of renewable energy to 500 GW by 2030 against the earlier target of 450 GW.
