Under the Union Budget 2022-23, the Ministry of Jal Shakti has received an allocation of Rs 861.89 billion. The allocation is 43.57 per cent higher than the budget estimate of Rs 600.31 billion for 2021-22. Of the total allocation, the outlay for the centrally sponsored schemes under the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation is Rs 672.21 billion, under which a provision of Rs 600 billion has been made for the National Rural Drinking Water/Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Rs 71.92 billion has been earmarked under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The centre has allocated additional funds worth Rs 189.69 billion to the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and the Ganga Rejuvenation. A provision of Rs 28 billion has been made for the Namami Gange Programme II.
