The central government has approved the offering, by coal companies, of all non-linkage coal through a common e-auction window to remove market distortions. This e-auction will cater to all the sectors and will be subject to Coal India Limited (CIL)/Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) meeting the coal linkage requirements against existing linkages. Coal offered through the window will be transport-mode agnostic, with rail being the default option. Coal may be transported by consumers via road or other modes depending on their choice and suitability without any additional charges or discounts. Long-term allotment of coal by CIL/SCCL to their own gasification plants will be allowed at prices decided by the coal company.
