The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) has launched a two-year pilot project for a smart 24×7 water supply project at Cheran Nagar in Kavundampalayam in Coimbatore. According to the CCMC, this is a first-of-its-kind IoT-based water supply project. It is being funded by the Department of Science and Technology’s Water Technology Initiative programme under the Government of India. The project entailed an investment of around Rs 25 million. The project is expected to benefit around 1,800 households. The first phase of the project will cover 400 households. Each household will be supplied 675 litres of water in 24 hours. The supervisory control and data acquisition-based system will monitor the level of the overhead tanker in the area, which has a capacity of 0.6 million litres. The system is being implemented through five distribution metering areas.
