The central government has inaugurated the 533 km Bokaro-Angul gas pipeline section in Jharkhand and Odisha for both domestic and industrial use. The project is expected to provide cheap gas to homes as well as businesses such as energy-based transport, electricity, fertiliser, food processing and cold storage. The Bokaro-Angul pipeline section covers 243 km in Jharkhand and 290 km in Odisha. The project has been built at an investment of Rs 25 billion. Post-commissioning, the total Jagdishpur-Haldia and Bokar-Dhamra pipeline network, including the Bokaro-Angul pipeline section, will have the capacity to carry 16 million cubic metres per day of natural gas.
