The executive committee of the National Mission for Clean Ganga has approved 14 projects pertaining to sewerage management, industrial pollution abatement, biodiversity conservation, afforestation, riverfront development and decentralised wastewater treatment, entailing an investment of Rs 11.45 billion. These include eight sewerage management projects in the five main stem Ganga basin states, which are Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. Four projects in Uttar Pradesh were approved for sewerage management, including tapping of the Assi drain in Varanasi by constructing a 55 million litres per day sewage treatment plant, and other works costing Rs 3.08 billion.
