The Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022, has been passed by the Rajya Sabha via a voice vote. The bill seeks to mandate the use of non-fossil energy sources such as biomass, ethanol and green hydrogen, and allows for carbon credit trading in the country. Further, the Energy Conservation Code for buildings shall forthwith apply to office and residential buildings with a connected load of 100 kW and above. Notably, the bill was cleared by the Lok Sabha in August 2022.
