Gurugram to reuse treated water

The Gurugram administration has decided to reuse sewage treated water by supplying it to the parched villages of Gurugram and neighbouring districts for irrigation purposes, making it a first-of-its-kind initiative. Around 550 million litres per day (mld) of treated wastewater from the Dhanwapur and Behrampur sewage treatment plants (STPs) will be supplied to 30 villages for irrigating more than 51,000 acres of land. These villages, situated in Gurugram and Jhajjar districts, are currently dependent on groundwater and freshwater channels for irrigation. The plan also proposes to provide micro-irrigation on 10,700 acres of land at an estimated cost of Rs 1.28 billion.
