The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has notified the CEA (Flexible Operation of Coal-based Thermal Power Generating Units) Regulations, 2023. As per the notification, coal-based thermal power generating should have the capability for flexible operations, with a minimum power level of 40 per cent. Further, generating units should have a minimum ramp rate capability of 3 per cent per minute for operations between 70 per cent and 100 per cent of the maximum continuous power rating, and 2 per cent per minute for operations between 55 per cent and 70 per cent of the maximum continuous power rating.
