MoP finalises the revised framework of day-ahead national level merit order despatch mechanism

The MoP has finalised the revised structure for the day-ahead national-level merit order despatch mechanism. As per the revised mechanism, the merit order for the cheapest generating resources across the country to meet system demand would be finalised a day in advance as against 1.5 hours in the existing system. This will result in better planning for generating units and optimisation of costs. It will also enlarge the scope of the present mechanism by including all regional entity thermal power plants and subsequently all intra-state thermal generators. It will be implemented by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) and operated by Grid Controller of India Limited at the national level.
