The Ministry of Power (MoP) has launched the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme, 2023. According to the scheme, the central government will constitute a national steering committee to monitor the functions of the Indian carbon market and give recommendations to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency to issue carbon credit certificates. The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission will be the regulator for the trading activities in the Indian carbon market. The commission will register the power exchanges and approve the trading of carbon credit certificates in the Indian carbon market, from time to time.
