MoP issues guidelines for resource adequacy planning framework for power sector

The MoP has issued guidelines for a resource adequacy planning framework in India, in consultation with the Central Electricity Authority (CEA). The guidelines will ensure that sufficient electricity is made available by putting in place a framework for advance procurement of resources by discoms to meet the electricity demand in a cost-effective manner. The guidelines also suggest that at least 75-80 per cent of the total capacity required by discoms should be secured through long-term contracts. The medium-term contracts are suggested to be in the range of 10-20 per cent, while the remaining power demand can be met through short-term contracts.
