The Government of Tamil Nadu has laid the foundation stone for water su¬pp¬ly and sewerage projects at Kottivakkam, Pallavakkam and Neelan¬karai in Sholinganallur Zone, Chennai. These projects involve the development of a water distribution network of 51.65 km, an upstream reservoir of 2.2 million litres and a downstream reservoir of 0.5 million litres; as well as the provision of water connections to 4,986 households. The sewerage works involve the provision of underground sewage connections to 12,776 households, benefiting 103,971 residents. Additionally, the Chennai Metro Water Board will construct pumping stations, 139 km of pipelines and mechanical bores. The estimated cumulative cost of these projects is Rs 4.95 billion.
