The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has commenced water supply to the Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVCMC) under the Surya Regional Bulk Water Supply Scheme (WSS). Currently, 85 million litres per day (mld) of water is being supplied, which is set to be increased to 185 mld. MMRDA is implementing the scheme using the Surya river as the source for 403 mld of bulk water supply to meet water requirements of 185 mld at VVCMC and 218 mld at the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation, including rental housing complexes and 27 villages located in the western subregion of MMRDA. It is being developed by Larsen & Toubro at an estimated cost of Rs 13.26 billion.
