The central government inaugurated three interception and diversion (I&D) and STP projects in West Bengal on March 1, 2024. These include the construction of new STPs with a total capacity of 165 mld at Howrah, Bally, Baranagar and Kamarhati; rehabilitation of an existing 22 mld STP in Bally, pumping stations; laying of 16 km of sewerage network and associated infrastructure in the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority area, along with operations and maintenance for 15 years. The cost of the project is Rs 6 billion and has been funded by the World Bank.
