Final breakthrough achieved in Chembur-Wadala-Parel Underground Water Tunnel Project in Mumbai, Maharashtra

The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has achieved the final breakthrough of excavation of the 5.25 km stretch from Wadala to Parel under the Chembur-Wadala-Parel underground water tunnel project on June 21, 2024. Excavation work on the Amar Mahal-Chembur stretch was completed in August 2022. The project involves the construction of a 9.7 km long tunnel from Hedgewar Udyan (Amar Mahal in Chembur) via Pratiksha Nagar (Wadala) to Sadakant Dhavan Udyan (Parel) at an approximate cost of Rs 11.25 billion.
