The Athikadavu-Avinashi Groundwater Recharge and Drinking Water Supply Scheme was inaugurated on August 17, 2024. A total sum of Rs 19.16 billion was allocated for implementing the scheme. The project involves recharging 1,045 waterbodies located in the Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Erode districts of Tamil Nadu. Approximately 1,500 million cubic feet of water is aimed to be used from the Bhavani river for 70 days every year. The water will be distributed through a pipeline network of 1,065 km. Moreover, six pumping stations have been built for this.
