In a notable development, the government Assam has inaugurated five compressed natural gas (CNG) stations in Guwahati, Assam. With this, there are a total of seven CNG stations in Kamrup metro and Kamrup district. Purba Bharti Gas Private Limited, a joint venture (JV) of Assam Gas Company Limited, Oil India Limited (OIL) and GAIL Gas Limited (GGL), established the five CNG stations in Guwahati. In addition, around eight CNG stations are likely to be completed soon, while work is in progress for 15 more stations. Work on three CNG stations has been completed while two more stations are under construction in the Barak valley.
