The Ministry of Jal Shakti (MoJS) launched the Bhu-Neer portal on November 20, 2024 for providing an integrated platform for the management of groundwater withdrawal permits. This centralised advanced portal has been developed by the Central Ground Water Authority under MoJS and the National Informatics Center. The portal aims to provide comprehensive information on groundwater-extraction regulations at the state as well as national level. It aims to facilitate transparent, efficient and sustainable utilisation of groundwater. The portal also enables access to important data on policies, groundwater compliance and sustainable practices by the users. Additionally, the publicly availably Bhu-Neer portal is an upgraded version of its predecessor, NOCAP. It has several user-friendly and informative features including permanent account number-based identification systems, no objection certificates with quick response codes for ease of verification and others. Moreover, the portal empowers project proponents to track the status of their applications, clarify their queries on groundwater withdrawal policies and pay statutory fees in a convenient manner.
