The central government laid the foundation stone for the Alipurduar and Cooch Behar city gas distribution (CGD) project on May 29, 2025. The project will supply PNG to more than 0.25 million domestic consumers across the Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts of West Bengal. Besides domestic supply, the project will also cater to commercial and industrial consumers. Additionally, as part of the minimum work programme target, around 19 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations are likely to be developed under the project. The project entails an investment of Rs 10.1 billion.
