The Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Mr Hardeep Singh Puri, inaugurated the state-of-the-art Smart Gas Meter Manufacturing Facility of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) Genesis Technologies Limited (IGTL) situated in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Notably, IGTL’s facility is Asia’s first fully automatic integrated plant.
IGTL is a joint venture of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), India’s largest city gas distribution company, a subsidiary of Vikas Life Care Limited, a BSE/NSE-listed entity. IGL itself is promoted by GAIL and BPCL and government of Delhi the largest natural gas companies in India.
About the facility
- Built to Industry 4.0 standards, featuring robotics, automation, and digital manufacturing systems among only a handful of such plants worldwide.
- Producing innovative India-specific smart gas meters, engineered for domestic gas usage patterns, diverse climatic conditions, and high durability of around 10 years without loss of accuracy.
National and global significance
- India has 12 million piped natural gas (PNG) households today, with a target of 125 million households by 2030, creating massive demand for smart gas meters.
- The plant ensures reliable domestic supply, reducing dependence on imports and providing resilience to IGL and other CGD companies.
- Its export potential positions India as a competitive global hub for advanced metering solutions, targeting markets in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
