The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IIT-G) to tackle the persistent issue of waterlogging in Gurugram, Haryana. Under the agreement, IIT-G will carry out a study to examine the design and functioning of the drainage networks of Gurugram and prepare a watershed management plan to mitigate urban flooding.
Further, a scientific water drainage model will be developed, based on which, new drainage structures will be recommended by the institute. Moreover, simulation models will also be developed based on the relevant data shared by MCG to forecast waterflow and accumulation during heavy rainfall. This is expected to aid in the identification of areas with high risk of flooding and design remedial strategies.
