The Ministry of Jal Shakti (MoJS) has launched the Jal Shakti Hackathon-2025 and the Bharat Water Innovation Network (WIN) Portal on December 9, 2025. The initiative aims to harness technological and scientific innovation to strengthen India’s water security in alignment with the government’s Water Vision @2047.
The hackathon adopts a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, inviting participation from citizens, startups, industries, academia, researchers, and others across regions. The Bharat-WIN portal will host periodic calls for proposals, ensure transparent evaluation and track idea development, promoting collaborative innovation to solve grassroots water challenges. Supported by the Research and Development Programme in Water Sector and the National Water Mission, the initiative will provide grants-in-aid of Rs 100,000 for selected innovations to develop proof-of-concept solutions. The National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee, has been designated as the project implementation agency to evaluate submissions and facilitate approvals.
