Torrent Power Limited (TPL) has signed a long-term sale and purchase agreement (SPA) with JERA for the supply of up to 0.27 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG for a period of 10 years commencing from 2027. TPL will direct the LNG towards operating the 2,730 MW combined cycle gas-based power plants (GBPPs). It will also support Torrent Gas Limited (TGL), the city gas distribution (CGD) arm of the Torrent Group, to meet rising LNG requirements and cater to the demands of compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles and household, commercial and industrial consumers. Moreover, TPL and TGL aim to explore medium and long-term LNG procurement to meet rising demands from the GBPPs and CGD networks, while leveraging softness in LNG prices, in a move to enhance their portfolio diversity and reliably meet energy supply needs.
