Delhi government approves deployment of 32 high-capacity cleaning machines to rejuvenate Yamuna river

The government of Delhi has approved the deployment of 32 high-capacity cleaning machines to mitigate water pollution in river Yamuna. The machine equipment fleet will comprise of eight long-boom amphibious excavators, six long-boom hydraulic excavators, two amphibious multipurpose dredgers, and six self-propelled, self-unloading hopper barges, etc.

The initiative aims to prioritise mechanised cleaning of major drains like the Najafgarh Drain to eliminate untreated sludge, silt and solid waste from entering river Yamuna. This cleaning initiative will be carried out in a phased manner.
