The government of Tamil Nadu has inaugurated an Integrated Reservoir Management Centre (IRMC) at the Indian Coast Guard Campus, Varuna Salai, Chennai to coordinate reservoir operations and strengthen flood preparedness. IRMC will manage Chennai’s three key reservoirs namely Poondi, Chembarabakkam and Red Hills using real-time data, sensors and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven analytics.
The centre will involve autonomous reservoir decision-making system, bringing together flood early-warning tools, supervisory control and data acquisition-based gate controls, internet of things-enabled field sensors and AI-machine learning-driven analytics.
