The government of Uttar Pradesh has completed high-resolution aerial surveys along the main stem of the Ganga river within the state as part of efforts to support technology-driven river rejuvenation and pollution control. The surveys have generated precise geospatial data, which are being integrated into a real-time GIS-based drain monitoring dashboard with 2D and 3D visualisation capabilities to enable continuous, real-time monitoring and prioritise remediation of drains discharging into the river.
The initiative, a first of its kind, combines light detection and ranging data with drone surveys for the surveillance of drains and related infrastructure. Furthermore, the National Mission for Clean Ganga is set to introduce CCTV based real-time surveillance systems. This will be integrated with an artificial intelligence enabled feature extraction system and a centralised dashboard to further strengthen the monitoring and compliance framework for sewage treatment plants (STPs).
