Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati has reportedly signed an MoU with Kaashyap Cleantech Innovations Private Limited for the large-scale commercialisation of bio-methanol production technology based on chemoautotrophic bacteria. The technology facilitates the conversion of methane and carbon dioxide into bio-methanol. It has also been tested as a diesel-blended fuel on a four-stroke diesel engine which resulted in around an 87 per cent reduction in carbon monoxide hydrocarbons, hydrogen sulphide and smoke emissions in comparison to pure diesel.
