Bengal Gas Company Limited (BGCL) has commenced the supply of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in Chandernagore.
BGCL, joint venture (JV) of Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) and Calcutta Gas Supply Corporation has laid about 58.8 km of gas pipeline infrastructure across nine wards, and aims to lay about 100 km of pipeline network across Chandernagore Municipal Corporation area by 2027. It has installed gas metres in 500 kitchens and is likely to start all supplies and 500 connections by September 2026.
GAIL has laid the Durgapur pipeline till Gayeshpur in Nadia via Rajarambati near Mogra in Hooghly and BGCL has laid the main pipeline from Rajarambati to Dankuni to supply Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and PNG in Hooghly and Howrah districts and is likely to begin PNG supply in Chinsurah by October 2026 and install 25,000 gas metres by March 2027.
The company commenced PNG supply in Kalyani and Debanandapur in November 2025 and June 2026 respectively and has installed about 2,629 gas metres in Kalyani and Debanandapur township.
