NMCG to fund project worth Rs 6.54 billion to build three STPs and redirecting sewage lines from Tolly’s Canal

The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) will fund a project worth Rs 6.54 billion to build three sewage treatment plants (STPs) and redirect sewage lines from Tolly’s Canal in Kolkata. The project aims to prevent the discharge of untreated sewage into the canal, which has been collecting around 0.25 mt of silt due to the dredging work undertaken by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Its pollution also leads to the contamination of the Hooghly river, as the canal connects to the river.
